Built in the Drivers Run eco-residential development in 2015 this family home was designed and built to complement its bushland setting and maximize its views of the alpine plateau of the Mt Barrow mountain ranges.
Externally its L-shaped design features stunning block blade walls with the remaining walls clad in rough-sawn new guinea teak which will age to a soft grey helping the house blend with its natural environment Due to the bushfire rating of the area careful attention and consideration had to be given substrate of the cladding used.
Expansive windows on the North facing side of the house not only frame the beautiful bushland surround but capture all year round sun maximizing the energy efficiency of the home.
Internally the living spaces are orientated to the sun and mountain views with sleeping areas branching from the main living room area with children’s living and bedrooms at one end and a parent’s area at the other.
The polished concrete floors complement the natural tones on the interiors which include large exposed grey block walls. The use of large custom made internal sliding doors add to the voluminous feel of the house whilst acting as an acoustic barrier.
The bathrooms which also feature polished concrete floors and shower recesses have imported Italian tiles laid in a floorboard pattern.
All door hardware and electrical fittings in the house had to be sourced individually due to the clients desire to have a matte black finish to complement the natural aesthetic of the interiors and the extensive use of timber cabinetry throughout the house.
The double kitchen is certainly the focal point of the house with its centrepiece feature being the versatile sliding glass splashback which gives the house its sense of carefully crafted functionality and impeccable style.
